Amb. Lauro L. Baja Jr., chaired the first plenary meeting of the Tripartite Forum on 23 May 2006. The Plenary approved the first two projects of the Forum, namely: the convening of a high-level conference on 21 September 2006 at the sidelines of the 61 st General Assembly, and the holding of monthly informal information sessions for the members and observers of the Forum.

The Troika will create a working group to handle all aspects related to the high level conference. The Bureau of the Committee of Religious NGOs at the UN will represent the civil society sector in the working group while the participation of Governments and the UN system will be open-ended. The working group will be meeting during the next few months to hammer-out the details of the conference, including its theme and level of participation.

Representatives of the three sectors will voluntarily host the informal information sessions on a monthly and rotational basis. These information sessions are designed to foster a better understanding of the workings of the forum and provide linkages with similar initiatives. Among the proposed topics for discussion include the UNESCO flagship project on interfaith dialogue and activities under the Dialogue among Civilizations, the regional interfaith initiatives, the Clinton Global Initiative and the Alliance of Civilizations.
